What we collect

VAT Number Checker tool

When you use our VAT Number Checker tool, we send the VAT number you enter to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) or the EU VIES system to validate it. We do not store the VAT numbers you check or the results returned. Each lookup is processed in real time and discarded after the response is delivered to your browser.

We may temporarily cache validation results for up to 24 hours to reduce load on government services. Cached data contains only the VAT number, validity status, and registered business name and address as returned by the relevant tax authority. No personal data about you is included in the cache.

Website analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how visitors use our site. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies, does not track individual users, and does not collect personal data. It provides aggregate data only — page views, referrers, countries, and device types.

Guides and wiki content

Reading our guides requires no account, no login, and no personal information. We do not track which guides you read beyond the aggregate analytics described above.

Country detection

We use Cloudflare's IP geolocation to detect your approximate country when you visit our homepage. This is used solely to pre-fill the country selector for your convenience. We do not store your IP address or location data.

What we do NOT collect

  • We do not require you to create an account
  • We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number (unless you voluntarily contact us)
  • We do not use cookies
  • We do not use advertising trackers
  • We do not sell, share, or transfer any data to third parties for marketing purposes

Data retention

We do not maintain a database of user data. Temporary caches of VAT validation results are automatically purged within 24 hours.

Your rights

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. In practice, we hold no personal data, so there is nothing to access, correct, or delete.
